Moving Minds Psychology
Hiya, thanks for checking out my page!
If you’ve landed here, you might be looking for a little extra help on your journey, and I’m so glad you’re here. My name’s Fiona (but you can call me Fi!), and I’m a registered psychologist. I am also the founder of Moving Minds Psychology.
At Moving Minds Psychology, I offer a supportive, tailored approach to therapy. I like to think about strategies that will help but also work for you, and how your brain and lifestyle work. My special areas of interest are supporting clients through life transitions, whether it’s perinatal or postnatal changes, offering trauma therapy through EMDR, or working with kiddos as they navigate early challenges. I also work well with my neurodivergent neuro-kin working through experiences, and chatting all things burnout.
I work from a neuro-affirming model, honouring the unique ways every brain works.
Strange side note: If you peep a fish or two on the website it is because we were called Babel Fish Psychology, a reference to one of my favourite books (and films) 'The Hitchhickers Guide to the Galaxy' where a Babel Fish is a quirky creature that when placed on your ear can instantly translate what someone is saying into a understandable language - which I find so fitting for what we try to do in Psychology.
I love to draw from modalities like:
- Attachment Theory (and Circle of Security COS)
- Parts work and Schema work (IFS)
- Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
- Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Telehealth
I offer telehealth services, so we can work together on finding the strategies that suit you best, all from the comfort of your own home. We can also tailor therapy to your preferences and sensory needs (i.e. camera's off, chat function, adjusting lights and brightness etc - so long as safe to do so).
In-Clinic
I am also in the process of finalising my in-clinic spot on the Sunshine Coast. Adults can choose telehealth or in-clinic, but i do prefer to see kids in-clinic (although watch this space as I may be able to offer therapy through gaming platforms soon!).
How I believe therapy should be:
I believe in being sensory aware and comfortable in therapy, so however you choose to show up is fine with me.
In pjamas, yes!
Cosplay or costumes, even better!
bringing in snacks or fidgets, go for it!
need me to tone down the lighting, i've got you!
A little more about me: I come from a neurodivergent household (meaning a lot of different brains under one roof!), and when I’m not at work or at home, you’ll probably find me hanging out at the aerials studio (think Trapeze). And just for fun, I’m always up for a good chat about sharks!! They are one of my special interests!
People would describe me as compassionate, empathetic, a great listener, and a little...quirky.. If you think we’d be a good match, feel free to drop me an enquiry. I’d love to chat with you.
Currently, I’m accepting new referrals and offering consultations by appointment only. Send me a query through the contact form, or email and I will contact you from there, based on your communication preference.
A Little Bit About Me
🌈I proudly stand as an LGBTQIA+ ally; your identity is valid, and it’s important to me that everyone feels respected.
🧠As a neurodiverse and neuroaffirming parent, I cherish the unique perspectives that come with divergent minds.
🐋 I have a passion for sharks
✨ I love to soar as an aerialist! in my free time🤸♀️

My approach
Kids
For our kids sessions we plan to make each session fun and relaxed while learning different strategies. We let kiddos turn up how they like, be it in pj's, or their favourite costume. Whatever works for them. We are also more than happy to work with sensory likes and are more than happy for snacks and drinks to be in session.
We come from a play-based perspective but still teach concepts from attachment, Acceptance Commitment therapy, and Sensory Focused approaches.
Due to our belief that kids do well in person, we only offer kids sessions in clinic (Sunshine Coast, Australia).
Adults
For adult sessions we are more than happy to meet you where you are. We believe in low pressure sessions so you can feel comfortable and heard. Sessions can be conducted from the clinic or online through Zoom. EMDR can be done either way you choose to engage.

My Jam
Child Psychology
I love working with kids!! I enjoy helping support those who just need an extra hand in making sense of their big emotions, ideas and curiosity. I believe that we engage better when we are interest-led and part of the process - which is why I enjoy using kids interests to teach psychology concepts. I also love finding creative ways to teach regulation skills, which don't feel too 'sterile' and 'clinicy', I love thinking up new ideas that will engage my young clients and believe that kids do well when they can get creative, collaborative and curious.
Perinatal/Postnatal Psychology:
I was first interested in postnatal psychology after having my own kids and seeing gaps in support services. This is an area so rarely talked about but so important. I am a PANDA Community Champion, I have completed the 'Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Intensive Training' and am also a trained 'Circle of Security' facilitator.
EMDR
I also have a strong background in trauma-informed care (including EMDR), and I work really well with people who’ve had tough experiences and are ready to start processing and making sense of their past.
