What should I expect from our first session?

I know it can feel overwhelming and stressful to talk to someone. I have put together this post on what to expect in your first session. Pop over and have a look here

  • Your site says 'EMDR Level 1' - does this mean you are not qualified to do EMDR?
I have completed Level 1 EMDR training with EMDR Academy Australia and am trained to administer EMDR in therapy. EMDR is an evidence-based approach that helps process trauma, distressing memories, and emotional blocks. I tailor EMDR to each client’s needs within a safe and neuro-affirming therapeutic space. If you're interested in EMDR, we can discuss whether it’s the right approach for you I can help with: ✅ Single-event trauma (e.g., car accident, assault, medical trauma) ✅ Mild-to-moderate PTSD and distressing memories ✅ Anxiety, phobias, and stress-related conditions ✅ Perinatal trauma (e.g., birth trauma, miscarriage, fertility challenges) ✅ Burnout, workplace trauma, and performance anxiety
  • Your available days don't work for me.
I'm sorry to hear that our calendars don't line up. In some one-off situations, I may be able to see you on a different day or time than what is on my website. Send me an enquiry, and we can chat.
  • Where can I find information about your cancellation policy?
This will be in all service agreements that you would get a copy with as a client. You can also find it on the 'information' tab on my website.
  • I feel uncomfortable in sessions, what alternative communication methods do you provide?
We can offer telephone appointments, or we offer Zoom appointments. If you opt for Zoom we can tailor the session so you can have some time with the camera off if you need, or we can use the chat box function for a portion of the session - this helps alleviate some verbal communication pressures.
  • What should I expect from our first session?

  • You say 'neuroaffirming' what is this?
Being neuro-affirming means recognising, respecting, and validating neurodivergent experiences. I support clients in understanding their neurotype, embracing their strengths, and finding strategies that align with their needs—without forcing neurotypical expectations.
  • Can I see you in person?
At this point, I am only offering telehealth services.
